Christian nationalism is the belief that the American nation is defined by Christianity, and that the government should take active steps to keep it that way. Popularly, Christian nationalists assert that America is and must remain a “Christian nation”—that we will lose our identity and our freedom if we do not preserve our cultural inheritance.

We will never win the fight against CHRISTIAN NATIONALISM without a clear commitment from the American Christian Church.

With polarization at an all-time high, it’s been said that in order to salvage the American Democratic Experiment, Christians in particular will have to chart a new course.

 
 

In Summer 2022, while planning an “Are We There YET” Screening Event with Boston’s New Roots AME Church, we decided to curate a different kind of Community Engagement Experience. We envisioned a wide-tent of Christians coming together to reflect, innovate and build - while discovering allies, opportunities and ways of making a real impact in our world today.

We had a meeting of the minds - and Spirit - around power, race, history and identity.

[GOSPEL] envisions the Experience launching unlikely collaborations and innovative long-term partnerships - all in service of bringing freedom and justice for all.

We gathered 100 people from across Metro Boston on Saturday January 7, 2023 to commemorate the second Anniversary of the Capitol Uprising. Together, we :

  • unpacked Christian Nationalism and the American Christian origin story;

  • engaged in Town Hall Discussions with a diverse, wide-tent community;

  • hacked fresh ways to combat Christian Nationalism through innovative Grassroots Campaigns;

  • piloted a new model for everyday Christians to shift the witness of the American Christian Church; and

  • Began learning how to not only build together, but really be together.
